Noise

The technology that we use today contributes a great deal to the "noise" in everyday life. Our computers and laptops make constant noise, our phone make noises when they ring or we get a text message etc. The good thing about using a cell phone or texting, opposed to talking to someone face to face is that it is alot easier to call or text someone, where as though, if you dont use a phone there is no fast way of getting in touch with someone.

I believe there is a difference between using technology, and abusing it. Some people spend their whole days on the computer or on the phone. Like my mother always says, cell phones are only supposed to be used for emergencies, and in this day, they are almost substitues for house phones.

  1. I wouldn't say they are "almost" substitutes. They *are* substitutes. And for a lot more than a simple house phone. We use cell phones to send pictures, text one another (we don't even have to talk to each other anymore!), find directions, etc. Cell phones have made face to face contact seem almost obsolete and unnecessary.

  2. I agree with you completely on our technology creating a lot of "noise." Our computer's and cell phones become so distracting it's hard to concentrate on the things that are most important. I also agree with Shannon in that cell phones are definitely a substitutes for house phones. In my house we don't have a house phone we all use our cell phones to communicate and it does have it's advantages but there are times I wish I lived in a different era because of all the technology.

  3. I feel the same way about technology, people are abusing it. Abusing technology is really hurting us as a nation. Technology contributes to obesity and that is a big problem in our nation today. Technology does have some negatives, but it does make communication a lot faster and smoother.

  4. I completely agree with you all about technology being a large part of our lives and taking over other aspects of are lives. As a society, we do have a fine line between abusing technology and using it and we do cross that line most of the time. We could pull back form using the technology but we would have to adjust our lives and most people do not want to do that.

  5. I totally agree with you in the fact that while, yes it is easier to get ahold of people using cell phones, internet, etc., our society today has totally begun to abuse these little bits of technology. I think that if we do pull back from the use of technology we will have to adjust majorily because we are so use to being able to just pick up a cell phone and call people or get on the computer and and send a quick email.
